I have recently learned that i was doing a cocker cut on my westies, and a bad one at that. After wiping the egg (and dog hair) from my face, i set about to improve my pattern.
I was blown away when i took the skirt down a good 2-3 inches from where i was taught and it looked… amazing. My preference is for a #4 ss cc on the back. I loooove setting patterns on westies!!

How did u used to do the pattern? I thought it was the same line as a cocker but blended down.
I was about 2 inches higher and not well-blended. The other groomers in my area do a #7 on the back… I HATE the way that looks (I was taught no shorter than a 5). I now do a Wahl #4 cc on the back and have taken my skirt about 3 inches lower than where I was taught on my cockers.
My son is running around naked and wet from the bath. Off to be a mommy!
i taught myself that also and i LOVE doing westie cuts now that they look so much more natural! i have one westie regular that i love doing because she has the perfect proportions imo and her head i almost dont have to trim, its always perfect!
